The orthopaedic surgeon, MD, Callum McBryde, from the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital of Birmingham (United Kingdom), has been hosted at the Clinica San Francesco of Verona, in particular in the MD Piergiuseppe Perazzini’s operating room in order to attend two hip robotic replacement operations. «I came to Italy to even better understand the working of Mako system and I attended two operations that have really impressed me concerning the Direct Anterior Approach. The Unit has been incredibly impressive and it made me feel very welcome. Surely there are many advantages using the DAA, as minimally invasiveness, protecting the soft tissues and also getting the implant in the right position», Doctor McBryde commented.

The Clinica San Francesco of Verona proves itself among the main European trainers of robotic surgery.

MD, Michele Trevisan, Orthopaedics and Traumatology Functional Unit, participated as speaker and faculty member in the annual European robotic certification programme for orthopaedics surgeons named “Mako System Certification Surgical Training Programme – Mako Total Knee & Partial Knee & Total Hip applications” held at the ICLO Teaching and Research Center in Verona (Italy) since 2nd to 3rd July 2019.

Dr. Trevisan, together with other Italian, British and Greek colleagues attended to the training of 20 surgeons from all over Europe about the Mako hip replacement with a specific in-depth analysis of direct anterior approach, able to preserve the tissues (more innovative), and of posterolateral approach (currently the most widespread). The Doctor is a member of the team directed by MD, Piergiuseppe Perazzini, who in December 2012 carried out in Clinica San Francesco the first two robotic hip replacements in Europe and outside the USA. The San Francesco’s staff knows very well the procedure thanks to its periodic formative stages at Mako firm in Fort Lauderdale, and orthopaedic Clinic of Doctor Dounchis in Naples, both in Florida (USA), in order to improve this innovative procedure.

The first day of meeting provided for 4 laboratories for the development of surgical skills with a view to deepen the Mako robot applications in partial and total knee replacements. During the second day, in the same way, other two laboratories regarding the total hip replacement was subsumed.

European Mako User Group Amsterdam 27-28th June 2019

The Clinica San Francesco of Verona disembarks in the capital of the Netherlands.

MD, Piergiuseppe Perazzini, Director of  Orthopaedics and Traumatology Functional Unit, attended, as speaker, the meeting “European Mako User Group”, held in Amsterdam since 27th to 28th June 2019, one of the most important European events in the context of robotic prosthetic surgery, where he explained to numerous specialists the outcomes achieved by his Unit. Today the Clinic is the leader in Europe regarding the hip and knee robotic surgery (from 2011). The Dutch annual meeting represents a significant international surgery event, reserved exclusively for 20 European surgeons, Mako’s robot users.

The Veronese surgeon explained in front of robotic orthopaedic surgery specialists, representatives of state of the art European hospitals. Just to name a few, the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire of Grenoble (France), the Hannover and Bielefeld Hospitals (Germany), the Princess Grace Hospital and Nuffield Hospital (United Kingdom) or the Acibadem International Medical Centre of Amsterdam, without forgetting the other Italian representative, MD, Professor Fabio Catani, Policlinico Universitario of Modena (Italy). The updated data of Clinica San Francesco talk about a long way begun in 2011 with the unicompartmental knee replacement, passing through the total hip replacement (2012) and arriving at the total knee replacement (two years ago), confirming its primacy in Europe and outside of the USA.

MD, Piergiuseppe Perazzini, appears today the real ‘primus inter pares’ in these international surgery debate events, but with something more, given by the direct line mantained with the US experts of robotic surgery, learnt pioneeringly ten years ago in the Center of Fort Lauderdale, in Florida (USA).
