Belgium visits Clinica San Francesco

The Clinica San Francesco continues in its work of European and international attraction as Training Center for knee and hip robotic surgery.

On Tuesday 25th September 2018 and on Tuesday 9th October 2018, respectively, MD Vincent Vanryckeghem (Belgium) and MD Jan Mycnke / Nick Van Opstal (Belgium) will visit the facility, desirous to see MD Piergiuseppe Perazzini (Director of the Functional Unit of Orthopaedics and Traumatology) at work in hip replacement operation with DAA (Direct anterior approach).

13° EHS Congress The Hague 20-22th september 2018

From 20th  to 22nd September 2018 the 13th  Congress of the European Hip Society will be held at the World Forum Congress Centre, in Churchill Plein, 10 in The Hague (Netherlands). The biennal meeting represents a significant event for the latest innovations in hip care and hip surgery, to discuss treatment options and meet the industry. International guest of honour: ACARO, Asociación Argentina para el Estudio de la Cadera y la Rodilla.

During the event, exactly on Thursday 20th September, MD Michele Trevisan, surgeon of the Functional Unit of Orthopaedics and Traumatology of Clinica San Francesco – supported by MD Piergiuseppe Perazzini (Director) and MD Alberto Marangon – will explain (in the ambit of “O16 New Technologies” section) the report “Anterior approach linked to Mako procedure: tips and tricks” focused on the hip Direct Anterior Approach (DAA).

This procedure  is one of the minimally invasive techniques used in total hip replacement surgery. Continuing orthopaedic experience suggests that this technique may be associated with reduced muscle damage and pain, as well as faster post-operative recovery. Traditional hip replacement techniques involve operating from the side (lateral) or the back (posterior) of the hip, which requires a significant disturbance of the joint and connecting tissues and an incision approximately 8-12 inches long. In comparison, the Direct Anterior Approach requires an incision that may be 3-4 inches in length and located at the front of the hip.
